One IPv4 address, several representations

Convert an IPv4 address to an unsigned integer, hexadecimal and 32-bit binary for logs, databases or address calculations. The representation changes, not the IP itself.

Common questions

Why is the IP stored as a negative number?

Some databases store IPv4 as a signed 32-bit integer. This tool displays unsigned values; normalize the representation before comparing or migrating them.

Is the reverse-DNS name a discovered hostname?

No. It is the generated in-addr.arpa query name. Use the DNS tool to look up an actual PTR hostname.

What integer range is accepted?

Unsigned IPv4 runs from 0 to 4294967295, corresponding to 0.0.0.0 and 255.255.255.255. Values outside that range do not fit a 32-bit IPv4 address.

How should I enter hexadecimal?

Use a 0x prefix, such as 0x08080808. Leading zeros do not change the value but help show all four bytes in fixed-width logs.

Why might a database show a different value?

Check signed versus unsigned types and big-endian versus little-endian storage. This tool uses network byte order; other interpretations can yield different integers.

Can this page convert IPv6 to an integer?

This page handles 32-bit IPv4 only. IPv6 is 128-bit; use the IPv4 / IPv6 converter below for its numeric representation.
